This is a reading I did earlier in March of this year. I was worried about doing it at first because the querent, whom I haven’t known for very long, was asking what the outcome would be if she married her boyfriend. Oh no, I thought, what if I got a bunch of cards about misery and unhappiness? Then I thought, well, she’s a smart woman, if she’s considering marrying this guy, she must be expecting things to work out well, at least love-wise.
I decided to do a “three-card” reading, but with bridges in between that would show the link between past, present and future. I also examined the two cards from the cut to see the general atmosphere around the question. I used the Bruegel Tarot, which is one of my favourites, and it’s funny I picked that because it depicts the life of Flemish villagers in the Middle Ages, and each card has something interesting going on.
I let out a sigh of relief when I saw the cards. No love cards (happy or unhappy). So it wasn’t about romance. Yay! And then I thought, what then?
The cards for the general atmosphere were the 6 of Wands (success coming from working with others) and the 6 of Coins (giving where it’s due or establishing a balance between giving and receiving). So it’s about work (Wands) and money (Coins). In fact almost all the cards in the reading were about work and money. Work can be your job, but also physical work.

Then I looked at the actual spread. I saw that in the past (the card at the very left) the querent and her boyfriend were playing around with an idea (2 of Swords) , but I wasn’t sure what.
The present was represented by the Death card (Major Arcana XIII). (Please ignore the gory image.) Death can show something ending or the ground being cleared away for something new. Since the querent was considering marrying her boyfriend, I didn’t think this was about ending a relationship right now. And besides, there were no Cup cards (love/emotions) in the reading. The link to this card from the past (thinking about something) is the 2 of Wands, which is the start of a cooperation towards a project. I also noticed there was a lot of symmetry; two sixes in the cut, and then two twos from past to present. So this might be a project where you would have to clear something away first (Death card).
The card for the “future” or outcome was the Emperor (Major Arcana IV). The Emperor is a very solid card that speaks of rulership and solid structures. And the link to that was the Queen of Coins. Would the querent be “clearing the ground” to make way for a new structure? If money was being invested (Queen of Coins), would that be literally about building something like a house for the couple?
I wanted to be sure what the Emperor was about. So I pulled out two more cards for clarification, and I got the 7 of Coins (working to save more money), but also the Page of Swords, (someone who’s starting out and doesn’t yet have a clear idea as to how to put their ideas into practice.) Also in this tarot deck the Page of Swords is a funny little guy who takes some time (maybe gets a bit side tracked?) to goof off with sheep. So eventually, once the couple have enough money, they may need to establish a clear plan on what to do next to achieve their goal… or also every now and then they will need to take a bit of time off from their project and “goof off with the sheep”, LOL!
Feedback from the querent: She and her boyfriend are thinking about investing in a pre-construction condo! They have one specifically in mind, said the querent. She thought maybe the Queen of Coins was her clearing the way for this structure because she’s currently saving money until the condos become available.
